“d.istanti” was created to tell unique stories, moments of quarantine, sensations, emotions, conquests and losses. A mirror of Turin that does not stop and that reacts.
Humans “naked” by a global pandemic and clothed in their fear and courage: these are the protagonists of the photographic project of Simone Arena and Federico Tardito 'd.istants'.
The project, curated and promoted by Simpol agency, goes beyond photography, beyond simple portraits, an artistic experience that goes beyond the concept of photography and the medium with which it is created.
In this project, photographer and subject remain distant, each in their own home, each in their own isolation.
It is not masks, gloves or the distance meter that protects one from the other, but technology.
And this is how the photographer virtually enters the home of his subjects, on tiptoes, in silence and with respect, guiding the subject through his 'photographic media' and immortalizing it in a snapshot of that silent moment.
Unique stories that tell moments of quarantine, feelings, emotions, conquests and losses. A mirror of Turin that does not stop and that reacts.
The project promotes the fundraising for the fight against Covid-19 promoted by Mirror of the Times.
Arena: “I have always supported these activities, it is important to create moments of beauty and culture that lead us to reflect on the value of what surrounds us. The project is entirely designed and created by young professionals motivated by the desire to make art in moments of crisis, an art that creates beauty and that is not just a protest or manifestation of discomfort.”
Tardito: “At a time when the lives of all of us were turned upside down and changed, photography could not remain indifferent to this change.
Family, personal and work relationships have become virtual, so even the photographer's physical presence in the portrait has changed into something new, a figure who directs the subject in his self-shot.
D.Istanti offers an amateur photograph and perhaps for this reason more real, a story composed of ordinary people and their stories of ordinary heroism.”
“When every day we decide who to be, what part of ourselves to project into reality, we choose to highlight only some aspects, leaving others in the shadows. Some of these sides remain in the dark even to ourselves.” D.istanti wants to reveal the hidden side of quarantine and illness, showing the fragile part of being that becomes at the same time a source of strength and hope.
